FAQ
Why should I choose Apex Performance Training?
I am here to help people who haven't got the confidence or don't want to work in a traditional gym. I have a experience training people through pregnancy to postnatal recovery as well as body transformations (one client has lost over 10 stone and halved her original body weight), I have also trained those with more challenging physical or psychological situations- so I have a large scope of practice if this sounds like you. I have also had a busy professional career, so I understand the pressures of balancing jobs, family, friends and exercise whilst having limited time to prepare food.
I provide a service which is much more than writing out a programme and telling you to eat more veg and drink more water. My aim is to make you feel like the best version of you, healthier, stronger and fitter from whatever your foundation is. If you just want a list of exercises to do, then you probably don't need my services. My approach is specific to the individual- your goals, your likes and dislikes. I want you to be happy in your activity and enjoy your food. For more info on my journey see Meet the coach, but everything I do is about fun, motivation and approachable atmosphere. My small group classes are nothing like a military bootcamp, but allow people with a common goal to meet, move and have fun. The best form of exercise is one that you can sustain over the long term, so enjoyment is key for success.
I'm really unfit, will I get any benefit from working with a trainer?
The short answer is YES, and I plan your sessions based around your current ability and short, medium and long term goals. How we get there will be unique to you, but I have tried and tested methods that work. You will be amazed at how quickly your overall fitness can improve with some small changes to your current routine.
I'm a fussy eater and I don't like healthy food, is it still worth working out?
If you have read the "About" page, you'll know I came from the exact same place! The first thing to remember is this is about small changes, and forming new healthy habits. In this instance, a food diary can really help me to understand what food you enjoy and how we can make it work better for you as part of an overall plan. Of course you can't out train a "bad" diet, but in my experience you can always improve and most of the time it's education and portion management that are the key to success. All my Personal Training packages include full nutritional coaching support so you are not on your own and you have a coach that understands the emotional connection we can have to food.
I find the gym intimidating, what are my other options?
This was one of the key reasons I set up APT. I train clients in my home studio, in their homes and in parks local to me in Horsham, East Grinstead and Crawley (roughly 15 miles from RH12). I am flexible at where I train and finding what works for you is one of the key elements for designing your plan. I want to get you to a place where you feel confident to train where YOU want to, but to get started you just need a bit of space which is usually easiest to find in your own home or garden.
How often do I need to train?
This really depends on what your goals are and how quickly you want results, but I generally recommend 2 to sessions a week. How often you need me with you will depend on your foundation fitness level and how much support you need. When you have hit your goal or feel confident enough to train alone, I recommend seeing me once a week to keep you on track. As well as 121 sessions I run small group outdoor courses, and offer online training which can help keep you on track and accountable if seeing a coach multiple times a week doesn't work for you.
How long are the sessions?
Personal Training 121's are an hour, and outdoor classes are 45 mins. If you have less time available I can work with you to build a plan that fits with your schedule, but overall you will need a total of three hours to commit to training a week.
I have an injury/have just had a baby/am expecting a baby- can I still train with you?
In most instances... YES. I will need you to be cleared with your GP or health care professional (e.g. midwife or physio) but I work closely with physiotherapists and other specialists, which can be helpful if you are seeing these alongside me. If you are signed off to "move", then I am happy to facilitate your rehabilitation/recovery or preparations (for childbirth is most common) as well as incorporating any other goals, such as strength or weight loss for example. My clients have a range of challenges from chronic pain conditions, to joint issues, as well as neurological disorders along with the more common bad back/wrist/knee/elbow issues. I am here to help you be safe and confident in movement, and would love to hear from you to arrange a consultation.
